Have you ever tried to milk a cow?
The effort and time that goes into harnessing, and preparing them for the milking process is immense. Not to mention the milking itself which is sometimes done by hand. Even those who are most skilled at it, can’t get it done is less than 10-15 minutes.
While that may seem like a short time to a farmer, it’s an eternity to a mobile shopper.
You’ve already lost them.
If potential customers are on your site and have a question, they probably have to leave the page they’re on to find your contact page (or click something that’ll open an annoying pop up asking for their information). Then, they either have to call you, fill out a contact form (which is no fun on mobile), or send you an email. For all that hassle, you might as well have asked them to milk a cow for you!
Go ahead and try contacting yourself from your website. How long does it take?
Now do it on mobile. How long does it take? More than 50% of browsing now takes place on mobile so you’d best start thinking through the little screen and not the big one.
How to tell if your contact method needs improvement:
- You can’t do it from every page. If a customer has to navigate away, there are many distractions and problems that will keep them from completing the purchase. What a waste of a sale.
- You have to look around the site or scroll a lot (on mobile) to find it. The customer will just do it later, or never…
- You need to fill out a form. The more fields, the less customers want to complete it. Doesn’t matter how big or small you are, forms are no longer acceptable. Especially when it’s so easy to replace them with immediate messaging.
- You need to send an email. Customers often get stuck on the subject line and leave the email for later. They hardly ever come back.
There’s a better way. Time to Mooooove over to texting.
